  • The National Council is a non-profit organization, and our goal is to continue the FreeHer Conference without placing a financial burden on the programs, services, policy, research, and work in support of ending incarceration of women and girls and our Reimagining Communities initiatives. In addition, as expected, the costs to put on this conference have increased. Still, The National Council has not had a registration cost in 4 years while providing the best conferences free to all who registered.

  • No, this registration does not include hotel accommodations. A separate registration MUST be made if guests attending FreeHer Conference 2023 stay on the property.

  • U.S. citizens do not need a passport to travel between the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

  • By registering and attending FreeHer Conference 2023 (FreeHer 2023), you consent to the following policies:

    Audio/Visual Policy

    Photography and/or recording (including audio and video) during the FreeHer 2023 Conference is allowed for personal and private use only.

    Photos and/or recordings cannot be copied, altered, sold, exhibited, or further distributed without The National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls (The National Council)’s prior written consent.

    Photos and/or recordings are the exclusive property of The National Council. The National Council retains the right to revoke consent.

    No disruptions due to photography and/or recording shall be allowed, and violators may lose attendance privileges.

    COVID-19 Policies

    The National Council will strictly follow COVID-19 safety procedures outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and any other governing Federal or local government agency overseeing the venue site.

    During your attendance at the FreeHer 2023 Conference, you will be required to support our COVID-19 Safety Measures and strictly follow our COVID-19 policies and procedures. These COVID-19 policies and procedures may include but are not limited to personal sanitization, mandatory face covering, and social distancing. These policies and procedures may be modified at any time in advance of or during the FreeHer 2023 Conference.

    Waiver of Lawsuit/Release of Liability:

    COVID-19 WARNING, ASSUMPTION OF RISK, WAIVER OF RISK, AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND INDEMNIFICATION FOR ATTENDING THE FREEHER ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2023 IN PUERTO RICO.

    WARNING RELATED TO COVID-19 INFECTION

    The novel COVID-19 coronavirus has been declared a worldwide pandemic and is very contagious.

    COVID-19 can cause serious and potentially life-threatening illness and even death.

    The National Council has taken and will continue to take all reasonable precautions to prevent the presence and spread of the disease but cannot and does not guarantee against exposure; therefore, in choosing to attend the FreeHer Conference, you acknowledge that you are assuming a risk that you may be exposing yourself to COVID-19 and its potential health risks.

    ASSUMPTION OF RISK

    I have read and understand the above warning concerning COVID-19. I acknowledge that attending a National Council Conference is of value to me and that I accept the risk of being exposed to COVID-19 in order to attend. Therefore, I accept the risk of exposure to COVID-19, and I agree that I am personally responsible for my safety and actions while attending the FreeHer Conference 2023.

    WAIVER OF LAWSUIT/ RELEASE OF LIABILITY

    I, for myself, my family, successors, and assigns hereby forever release, waive, discharge, and covenant not to sue The National Council, its board of directors, board members, officers, agents, servants, affiliates, employees, successors, and assigns (collectively the “Released Parties”) from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, and causes of action whatsoever, directly or indirectly arising out of or related to any loss, damage, or injury, including death, that may be sustained by me related to COVID-19 while participating in any activity associated with National Council Conferences.

    INDEMNIFICATION

    I agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Released Parties from and against any and all costs, expenses, damages, claims, lawsuits, judgments, losses, and/or liabilities (including attorney fees) arising either directly or indirectly from or related to any and all claims made by or against any of the Released Parties due to bodily injury, death, loss of use, monetary loss, or any other injury from or related to my attendance at National Council Conferences specifically related to COVID-19.

  • FreeHer Conference 2023 Code of Conduct applies to all attendees, employees, exhibitors, speakers, sponsors, volunteers, and other participants at National Council-sponsored events. We empower all participants in our community to actively engage in creating a friendly and safe environment for all.

    1. PURPOSE

    We believe our community should be truly open to everyone. We are committed to providing a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment for all, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, or religion.

    This code of conduct outlines our expectations for participant behavior and the consequences of unacceptable behavior.

    We invite all sponsors, speakers, attendees, media, exhibitors, and other participants to help us realize a safe and positive conference experience for everyone.

    All determinations of appropriate or inappropriate behavior are at Informa’s sole discretion, and the decision(s) of the Informa representatives on-site will be final.

    2. EXPECTED BEHAVIOR

    Be considerate, respectful, and collaborative.

    Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior, materials, and speech.

    Be mindful of your surroundings and your fellow participants. Alert conference organizers if you notice a dangerous situation or someone in distress.

    3. UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR

    Unacceptable behaviors & materials include intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning materials or conduct by any attendees of the event and related event activities. Many event venues are shared with members of the public; please be respectful to all patrons of these locations.

    Harassment includes offensive comments (verbal, written, or otherwise) related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or disability; inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images in public spaces (including presentation slides); deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following; harassing materials, photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events (whether verbal or otherwise); inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

    Physical, written, verbal, or other abuse, intimidation, threats, annoyance, harassment, stalking, pushing, shoving, or use of any physical force whatsoever against any person, which in any way creates a disturbance that is disruptive or dangerous, or creates apprehension in a person, as determined by Informa and its show management, in their sole discretion.

    Possession of any item that can be used as a weapon may cause danger to others if used in a certain manner.

    Any boisterous, lewd, or offensive behavior or language, including but not limited to using sexually explicit or offensive language, materials or conduct, or any language, behavior, or content that contains profanity, obscene gestures, or racial, religious, or ethnic slurs,

    Possessing any open can, bottle, or other receptacle containing any alcoholic beverages, except in areas specifically designated for the consumption of alcohol. Please drink responsibly.

    Smoking – other than in designated areas.

    Assembling for the purpose of, or resulting in, disturbing the peace, committing any unlawful act, or engaging in any offensive behavior.

    Failure to obey any rules or regulations of the Venue.

    4. CONSEQUENCES OF UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR

    Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated, whether by other attendees, media, speakers, volunteers, organizers, venue staff, sponsors, or exhibitors. Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in unacceptable behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including expulsion from the conference, without warning or refund.

    5. WHAT TO DO IF YOU WITNESS OR ARE SUBJECTED TO UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR

    If you are subjected to unacceptable behavior, notice that someone else is being subjected to unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please notify a conference organizer as soon as possible. All reports will remain completely confidential.

    Event Staff will be available to help those experiencing unacceptable behavior feel safe for the duration of the conference. You can report unacceptable behavior to any member of staff.

    6. SCOPE

    We expect all conference participants (staff, sponsors, volunteers, speakers, attendees, and other guests) to abide by this code of conduct at all venues and social events.

    7. PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEOGRAPHY

    Video recordings and photographs are being taken at this event. By entering, you agree to have your image and likeness used by Informa.

  • Conference registration canceled on or before September 4, 2023, is refundable but subject to a $50 administrative fee. Registrants canceling on or after September 5, 2023, will NOT receive a refund. The refund and cancellation policy will not be waived.
